WHAT WE DO

OUR MISSION

We invest in projects that create opportunities with real impact.

Education with impact

We believe that education provides the foundation for prosperity and is the greatest leveler to income disparity. It opens perspectives, encourages innovative thinking and creates opportunities. At Kalipatnapu Foundation, we support projects that encourage access to education in schools, sports and higher education.

ENCOURAGING. EMPOWERING. TRANSFORMING.

Supporting communities and individuals

We choose to invest where we can make the greatest difference to a community or individual. To improve access to education and create opportunities, we first need to ensure that solid foundations are in place.

Without access to apt infrastructure, children may miss out on the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. This applies to both school and sport. At school we develop our ability to think critically and problem solve, while on the sporting field we learn invaluable skills like teamwork, collaboration and perseverance.

We encourage increased attendance and participation at school and in sports by supporting projects to provide facilities and infrastructure. Once the basics are in place, the right opportunities can be created for students to thrive.

From helping schools provide basic facilities to enabling sporting communities to develop or giving an individual the opportunity to study with peers at elite institutions, we support initiatives that have an impact.

FACTS

OUR INSPIRATION

The idea for the Kalipatnapu Foundation was borne almost a century ago when Kalipatnapu Kondiah joined India’s freedom struggle. A Professor of Chemistry at Banaras Hindu University, he left to follow his beliefs and join the non-violent movement with Mahatma Gandhi. He was imprisoned, but rather than be defeated he chose to use his time to teach science, history and economics to fellow prisoners and workers.

Eventually returning to Banaras, Kondiah wrote several books about history and physics and perfected the process of extracting potassium permanganate from banana trees. However, he was driven by his desire to improve the lives of those where he grew up in Andhra Pradesh. Returning home, he devoted the remainder of his life to the industrial development of his home district. He gave not only his intellect, time and money to this cause but also eventually his health. His contribution to the local economy and those he mentored is now his continuing legacy through his family.

Kondiah believed in love rather violence, acting with intellect and listening with care to solve problems. He touched many lives as a scientist, patriot, politician, industrialist, economist, historian and journalist. While he led with the heart, he was always guided by his head and believed that education was the key to sustainable development.
